About Mohs Surgery

Dr. Rhinehart and Dr. Mollet offer Mohs surgery and reconstruction at Skin Surgery Center of Oklahoma. Mohs surgery includes the precise removal of skin cancer while preserving as much healthy skin as possible, microscopic examination to ensure complete removal of cancerous cells, and repair of the resulting wound utilizing plastic surgery techniques by the same surgeon on the same day. Mohs surgery provides a 99% cure rate with excellent cosmetic results. Mohs surgery is considered the best treatment option for a large portion of skin cancers.

The Advantages of Mohs Surgery

Some skin cancers can be deceptively large – far more extensive under the skin than they appear to be from the surface. These cancers may have “roots” in the skin, or along blood vessels, nerves, or cartilage. Skin cancers that have recurred following previous treatment may send out extensions deep under the scar tissue that has formed at the site. Mohs surgery is specifically designed to remove these cancers by tracking and removing these cancerous “roots.”
